The End of Summer Camping Checklist: What's Actually Worth Packing

Summer's winding down, which usually means one of two things: you're squeezing in a last trip before the nights draw in, or you're already thinking about what worked and what didn't from the trips you've already taken. Either way, here's our honest checklist, the stuff that's actually worth the space in your bag.

Shelter and Sleep

A tent you've actually pitched before. Don't let the first time be in the dark, in the rain, with everyone watching.

A sleeping mat, not just a bag. The ground gets cold quicker than people expect, even in August.

A head torch with spare batteries. Phone torches drain fast and you'll want both hands free.

Cooking and Food

A single reliable stove. You don't need a multi-burner setup for a weekend trip, one stove and one pan covers most meals.

Meals that don't need a cool box. This is where WAT Kitchen noodle and rice boxes earn their spot. They store in a cupboard or the boot, need nothing but boiling water, and are ready in about two and a half minutes.

Snacks that travel well. Protein bites, nuts, or anything that survives being squashed at the bottom of a bag.

A lighter and a backup lighter. Always more useful than you think.

Comfort

A proper camp chair. Sitting on damp grass gets old fast.

Layers, not one big coat. Evenings cool down quickly even after a warm day.

A dry bag for anything electronic. Phones, chargers, and cameras don't mix well with tent condensation.

The Stuff People Forget

Bin bags. For rubbish, wet clothes, or dirty dishes on the way home.

A small first aid kit. Plasters and painkillers, at minimum.

Cash. Not every campsite or farm shop takes card.

The One Rule Worth Following

If you're not sure whether something earns its space in the bag, ask whether it saves you time or effort once you're actually there. That's the test WAT Kitchen boxes pass easily: less faff at dinner means more time actually enjoying the trip, which is really the whole point of camping in the first place.
